Stop using basting pins and hurting your fingers!

Are you tired of trying to push basting pins through 3 layers of a quilt? Do they hurt your fingers as much as they do mine? Also, it’s really time consuming! And if like me you aren’t lucky enough to have giant tables for basting, all the time crawling on the floor is really painful on the ever-aging knees.

Spray baste is the answer! It’s a light, washable glue in a spray can that makes basting super quick and easy.

I’ve tried a bunch of different brands of spray baste and Odif brand 505 temporary adhesive is my favourite.

It doesn’t have a strong smell and performs nicely while I’m working with it. Plus it doesn’t gum up your sewing needle while you are quilting- and that’s a huge help!

It won’t stain your fabric and comes out in the wash so you aren’t left with anything tacky in your quilt.

The other thing I love about spray basting is that it holds everything together a lot more securely than pins. So if you are quilting the heck out of something you will get less spreading overall. No chance of sewing over a pin either- that’s always a bit of a gamble if you aren’t paying attention.

How long does the glue last? A long time! I’ve spray basted quilts and gone back to them a year and a half later – still holding together just fine.

It comes in two sizes (156g and 312g) but I always opt for the bigger one because it’s a better value. I can’t go back to pins!

So remember, spray basting with 505 is:

1. Time saving
2. Easier!

3. Awesome results
4. Safer

Happy stitching, everyone!
